Above all, the Mezzometro® story is about family and passion for good food. It all began in Senigallia when I, Alessandro Coppari, was still young and started learning the art of pizza making. I soon saw that people’s tastes and perceptions of quality were changing.
After years of experience, courses in bread making and research into flours and other raw materials (long, hard years of trying all the best products and beers I could find, I can tell you!), I understood that the time had come to innovate. So, in 2004 I opened my first, very own pizzeria. At last I could put into practice all that I had learned and focus entirely on quality products.
My first innovation was to introduce “pizza by the metre”, which proved a greater success than I ever expected. Legend has it that I invented it (though some malicious tongues claim the idea was already popular in other parts of Italy). Certainly, nobody had ever made pizzas this way in Senigallia. No matter how light and delicious it is, however, it takes quite a large number of hungry people to consume a whole metre of pizza. So I decided to add a “half metre®” pizza to the menu. And that explains everything. I was even handed a new name for my pizzeria, on a silver plate – or rather a silver pizza paddle.
In the meantime, my brother, Alessio Coppari, a talented engineer, after working around the world for a number of years (from Mexico to Ireland) amazed everybody and certainly delighted me when he put himself forward as my partner in a new pizzeria. How could I say no to my prodigal brother? In 2010 we sacrificed a fatted calf, organised a great party and opened “Mezzometro®” in Jesi. That is a short summary of our story and the milestones we have passed along the way.
